E8 launches malaria elimination scorecard for southern Africa
On May 19th, the Elimination Eight (E8) regional initiative and the Southern African Development Community launched a malaria elimination scorecard. The E8 scorecard, based on the Africa Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) scorecard for malaria control in Africa, uses a key set of indicators covering epidemiology, vector control, financing, policy and program management to track progress towards elimination in southern Africa. The E8 scorecard presents data for these indicators in the four frontline eliminating countries - Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland - and in four second-line countries - Angola, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The scorecard will be a useful tool to keep countries accountable for their progress towards elimination, encourage accurate and timely reporting of data, and track progress towards the regional goal of malaria elimination.
