Tolulope Akinkunmi
Dr. Tolulope Akinkunmi is a Medical Doctor and public health enthusiast.
She is a distinguished researcher with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR)’s Public Health and Epidemiology Department, where she contributes to the advancement of malaria control and surveillance initiatives. She works as a Senior Medical Officer with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board in Nigeria and has over 8 years of experience in diagnosing and treatment of malaria. She works in tune with the Malaria Strategic Plan of her country to ensure the prevention and control of malaria.
She has been involved in several projects that involve the distribution of free insecticide-treated nets and the provision of Intermittent Preventive Treatment (IPT) to Pregnant Women and those living with sickle cell disease. She has been involved in rural and urban outreach for Rapid Diagnostic Testing for malaria and ensuring equitable access to malaria treatment by all sections of the population and as close to their homes as possible.
Previously, she worked as the focal person and coordinator in the Kimberly Clark Funded Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) program in collaboration with Water Aid Nigeria, which aimed at hygiene behavioral change and provision of sanitary facilities, which ultimately is important in malaria prevention and control.
She was also trained with certification on Hygiene Behaviour Change and creative process to design hygiene intervention package by WaterAid Nigeria in coordination with WaterAid West Africa Region and WaterAid UK programme support unit.
She was involved in formative research for the Sanitation Hygiene Improvement Project (SHIP), which was used to design a creative process to deliver hygiene behavior change intentions that contribute to vector control in malaria prevention.
She has been trained and certified in the Integrated Management Of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), including Malaria Prevention and Control, by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board.
