Mind the Gap
Mind the Gap (MTG) is an investment supported by funding from the Gates Foundation that seeks to collectively realign efforts toward global malaria reduction and elimination by enhancing vector control and surveillance. It brings together partners from the Malaria Elimination Initiative, Ghana Health Service, Infectious Disease Research Collaboration, Kinshasa School of Public Health, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Program National de Lutte Contre la Paludisme, Ghana’s African Field Epidemiology Network, Nigeria’s National Malaria Elimination Programme, Mozambique’s Programa Nacional de Controlo da Malaria, and Uganda’s National Malaria Elimination Division.
Specific aims include:
- Strengthening of individual and institutional capacity for vector surveillance
- Generating evidence to enable informed decisions on fit-for-purpose, adaptive, entomological surveillance and control
- Synthesizing evidence and expertise to help countries adopt innovative strategies for vector control
Governance and equity
Mind the Gap emphasizes equitable partnerships based on mutual participation, trust and respect. A shared governance structure has been established to ensure joint leadership and accountability. This Management Board is chaired by the Malaria Elimination Initiative with representatives from the national malaria programs and public health research institutes highlighted above. The Board collectively leads strategy, oversight, policy development, and major financial decisions for the investment.
