Jahit Sacarlal

Jahit Sacarlal is an Epidemiologist and Full Professor of Medical Microbiology and current Director of the Faculty of Medicine at Eduardo Mondlane University and academic coordinator of the Master's Degree in Field and Laboratory Epidemiology, with more than 24 years of experience in teaching and research related to the development of drugs and vaccines such as Malaria (from phase IIb to III), Tuberculosis and HIV, diseases with a major impact in Mozambique and also study different existing cancers and with around 170 publications in national and international scientific journals, manuals and other documents. He has participated in more than 100 research projects and has a total of 8937 citations, an h-index of 47 and an i10 index of 88. As a teacher, Professor Sacarlal was/is involved in the supervision and guidance of around 80 master's students and doctorate and some of them doing postgraduate studies outside Mozambique. He is or has been involved in developing curricula for bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, including with external partners. He was 1st President of the Institutional Bioethics Committee at the Faculty of Medicine and at the Maputo Central Hospital, evaluating around 600 research protocols. Since 2014 he has been President of the Mozambique Immunization Expert Committee (CoPI). Professor Sacarlal maintains strong collaboration with dozens of international institutions and has ongoing funding as an investigator from EDCTP, NIH, SIDA, the Global Fund and others.
