Increased support for vector control activities in the Asia Pacific region

The Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN) has received a $175,000 USD gift from the Sumitomo Chemical Company to continue and expand the network’s vector control activities in 2017. The funding, which is intended to spark interest and support from private sector partners in the work of APMEN, will increase the capacity of the APMEN Vector Control Working Group to address bottlenecks in capacity and implementation of entomology and vector control programs and strengthen learning, collaboration, and skills in the region.

The MEI worked with Sumitomo Chemical in 2014 and 2016 to secure support for the network. The funding complements support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the work of three APMEN Working Groups (Surveillance and Response, Vector Control, and Vivax).
