Malaria Elimination Initiative collaborator Dr. Jun Cao is awarded an impact grant from the WHO’s TDR program
In December, Dr. Jun Cao of the Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases (JIPD), Wuxi, China was awarded a research grant from TDR, the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases co-sponsored by UNICEF, UNDP, the World Bank and WHO. The grant will enable Dr. Cao to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of China’s case investigation and reactive case detection program for malaria elimination. Dr. Cao’s research will be conducted in collaboration with the UCSF Global Health Group’s Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI) and will identify areas for China to improve their active surveillance and response system with the implementation of a monitoring and evaluation tool developed by MEI. JIPD is a collaborating institution of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN), which has provided input and feedback on the tool. The tool will be eventually made available to all malaria programs worldwide.
