Ministers meet at Wilton Park to discuss malaria elimination in Asia Pacific and southern Africa
Last week, 32 ministers and former ministers, and decision-makers from Ministries of Health and Finance from 17 countries in Asia Pacific and southern Africa agreed to a statement on "Malaria Elimination and Acceleration towards a Malaria-Free World". Convened by UCSF Global Health Group's Malaria Elimination Initiative, leaders met at Wilton Park on September 30-October 2 to discuss the political and financial commitment required to accelerate malaria elimination in the two regions. In addition to recognizing the links between malaria elimination, health security, and the new Sustainable Development Goals, leaders acknowledged that malaria eradication is within reach. They agreed that malaria elimination efforts can be further accelerated if greater political support is won and if financing for malaria elimination increases, particularly at the domestic and regional levels.
