World Health Assembly approves global malaria strategy for 2016-2030
This week, at the 68th World Health Assembly meeting, the WHO Global technical Strategy (GTS) for Malaria 2016-2030 was approved and adopted by WHO Member States. The GTS provides recommendations for evidence-based technical strategies for countries in all phases to achieve malaria elimination based on a 3-pillar framework: first, to ensure universal access to malaria prevention, diagnosis and treatment; second, to accelerate efforts towards elimination and a malaria-free status; and third, to transform surveillance into a core intervention for malaria elimination. Through this framework, the GTS sets out ambitious targets to reduce malaria morbidity and mortality by 90% over the next 15 years.
